Have you heard about Himalayan Salt Lamps before? They're these super neat lamps made from solid Himalayan salt crystal and cut into different shapes with a light bulb in the center. Aside from making a beautiful orange-glowing nightlight or ambient light, the heat of the light bulb and salt in combination is what makes them so special.
When turned off the salt crystals attract water molecules that contain micro-debris which become absorbed into the salt, this helps to eliminate allergens, dust, and toxins from the room. Once the lamp is turned on the light bulb heats up the salt crystal causing the water to evaporate. The evaporation process is when the salt lamp emits the good negative ions - like a waterfall. Waterfalls also put off negative ions which works to neutralize the positive ions in the air that are said to cause increased stress levels, fatigue, and lowers your body's immune system. Positive ions are emitted from electronic devices such as computers, TVs, and smart phones - which is why in this day and age it might be a good idea to get yourself a salt lamp for your desk or bedroom.
Adam and I gave this Himalayan Salt Lamp to someone for Christmas and after seeing them use it we wanted one too. Now we use ours every evening as a nightlight/ambient lighting. It's such a nice orange-y amber glow it feels like a burning candle. Plus, if your salt lamp needs a replacement bulb you can simply use a nightlight bulb.
If you're more of a tea light person you could check out these Himalayan salt tea light holders instead, while still getting the goodness of the salt. They're going on my wish list for sure!
